"Michael Bowman is a singer-songwriter and all-round instrumentalist from Harrisonburg, Virginia. I’m reliably informed that he studied classical guitar and jazz at James Madison University, but his inspiration on “Until Tomorrow Comes” seems altogether earthier, and it’s names like Ryan Adams, Gary Louris and Neil Young that spring most readily to mind. He’s a fine pop writer, too, and much of the record is tailor-made for radio, with hooks that catch fast, and an easy, likeable style.

Opening number “Red Guitar” perfectly encapsulates what he does so well. A strong song, with a solid narrative is delivered with confidence and a voice distinctive enough to stand out. Guitar and mandolin, both played by Bowman, provide a good part of the backing. “Gotta Get Away” has got a wonderful ‘70s feel to it, like hearing a lost Jesse Winchester cut for the first time, and when he plugs in on “Sunshine” or “Tell Me” he’s just as convincing, and honestly, there’s always room for a new artist playing alt. country with a rock guitar."

News

2/23/12

Hey dudes, as you can see, I'm not that good at the whole keeping the news up-to-date thing.  Anyway, things have been pretty cool lately down here in Athens.  I've been learning to be a bartender/barista (apparently a barista is someone who serves coffee, who knew?).  So, from now on, you might be able to locate me at Hendershot's Coffee Bar or other various Jittery Joe's locations around town!  I'll be sure to serve you up somethin' fancy.

Since last time, I have:  bid farewell to The Dish Dogs, played a very fun show in Annapolis with ma' good ol' buddy Max Jeffers, appeared on WUGA radio and local cable channel...15 I believe it was (I didn't get the channel), and cultivated a bit of a "thang" at Hendershot's Coffee Bar.  I have posted a few videos from the cable show below and on the "videos" page.

If you get a chance to come out to an upcoming show, please do, they have been a blast.

-I will be at Hendershot's on Friday, March 2nd with Joel Hamilton from Charleston, SC.  Check him out at joelthamilton.com.

Hope everyone likes the newly renovated website!  I would ideally place my name on the lower right corner of the coffee table, but it just will not do it for me.  I guess you can't have everything.

Can't wait to be back in Harrisonburg with The Dish Dogs on New Year's Eve at Clementine Cafe.  It will be our last show that we know of, so come out if you ever want to see us again!

I have a couple of shows to announce:

-I will be playing a few songs at Hendershot's Coffee in Athens on Sunday, 12/18 for the Cowboy Angel Christmas Show.  Can't wait to meet all of those guys.

-49 West in Annapolis, MD with my good friend Max Jeffers on Friday 12/30

-Clementine Cafe in Harrisonburg, VA (drumming in The Dish Dogs) on Saturday 12/31

-Radio show on WUGA 91.7 "It's Friday"  at 3:00pm in Athens, GA on Friday 1/27
